Dominique, Franois
1946-

Franois Dominique was born on September 1st in Milot, a suburb of Cap-Haitian, Haiti. He completed his elementary education with honors in 1960. He then went to trade school and became a certified tailor before returning to complete to years of high school. While he attended his time to family obligation, he began to paint and quickly developed a passion for it.

He worked with Philome Obin for two months, who is considered to be the father of the "school of Cap Haitien" painters, before deciding to spend a period of two years isolated in the remote countryside to search for his identity. He fell in love with the landscape and abundant vegetation. This is where he developed his acute sense of observation of the country life style.

Between 1968 and 1969 he began to devote his life to painting and developed his own style, which can be easily recognizable marked with a distinct sense of color and humor.
